Floodings in NYC, Staying home and relaxing for us

Today was marked by repeated flash flood warnings by the city of New York and the New Jersey area. Just to give you an idea of the state of affairs, I have cited to links below that you can follow to see some pictures.

As a consequence, we did not stay particularly long in town. The canalisation of Manhattan was not up to the task and many of the streets were completely flooded. By 11:00 our clothes and especially shoes were soaking wet, so we decided to go back to the flat and get dry.

We made our way to Manhattan in the morning to have a look at the former Ground Zero, where the September 11th terrorist attacks happened. In the place of the original WTC Towers are now the two largest man-made waterfalls surrounded by a ledge that mentions the names of every person who died during that horrible attack. Strangely enough, the rain seemed kind of fitting when standing in front of it as it sombers the mood just as much as the memory of that day.

One of two man-made waterfalls that encompass the entire area of each building before it toppled to the ground back in September 11th, 2001 during the terrorist attacks

As you can see already it was raining heavily. Shortly after we fled into a mall just to watch the rain go from heavy to torrential.

By the time we finished, it was already raining so heavily that we did not bother queueing for the Memorial museum as the queues reached to the outside and included at least 30 minutes waiting time. We grabbed a little something to eat at Earl's Beer & Cheese in the hope that the rain would die down a bit, but to no avail.

Beer Cheese with bread and a Coke for Isi and the Cuban Reuben with a Stout for myself at Earl's Beer & Cheese.
Afterwards, we tried to make our way to the Museum of the History of New York City when we had our ill-fated encounter with plenty of flooded streets, leaving us drenched and ready to go home. The rain was so heavy that it actually stopped the Metro lines in the center entirely, which was the reason why a 20 minutes train ride took us about 45 minutes.

Once home, we watched Netflix and relaxed. There was nothing else that we could possibly do until the next day ;)
